PURE Bale In a Bottle is a natural pond enhancer inspired by traditional barley straw. The 2-in-1 gel combines matured barley straw with live beneficial bacteria to support a more stable pond ecosystem and a naturally clearer appearance — without stuffing a bale into the water.

A traditional straw bale can work, but it is slow, messy, and leaves organic debris behind. This gel is pre-conditioned. Shake the bottle to wake the culture, then dose by volume each week. It is intended to start supporting the pond faster than an unconditioned bale and to do it without leftover straw in the skimmer or on the liner.

A strong, earthy smell is normal. That odor is a sign the live culture is active.

Sizes and coverage (when dosed as directed)

Coverage below is based on the standard weekly dose of 10 ml (about 2 teaspoons) per 265 US gallons. It is a capacity estimate, not a promise that one bottle will clear every pond.

500 ml — about 16.9 fl oz. Up to about 3,300 US gallons for 4 weeks at the standard weekly dose.
1000 ml — about 33.8 fl oz. Up to about 6,600 US gallons for 4 weeks at the standard weekly dose.

How much to use:

Calculate pond volume before dosing. Do not guess.

1. Remove as much existing string algae and surface debris as you reasonably can.
   
2. Use when water temperature is above 50°F (10°C).
   
3. Shake the bottle well to activate the gel.
   
4. Turn the UV sterilizer off when you dose. Leave it off for 24 hours afterward
   
5. Add 10 ml (about 2 teaspoons) per 265 US gallons every week, preferably after a water change.
   
6. For ponds in full sun or ponds that already have a heavy algae load, double the dose for the first 4 weekly applications, then return to the standard rate.

Pour the measured gel near a return, waterfall, or aerator so it mixes through the pond.

For best results:

• Keep pH above 7
  
• Keep chlorine at 0 (treat tap water before it enters the pond)
  
• Keep the pond well oxygenated with an air pump, diffuser, waterfall, or fountain
  
• Do regular partial water changes
  
• Run filtration consistently
  
• Use a UV sterilizer for free-floating green water; turn it back on after the wait period

Fish, plants, and wildlife:

When used as directed, this gel is intended for ponds that contain fish (including koi), plants, and wildlife. It is made from natural ingredients. Do not treat a new, uncycled pond as if it were an established system. If fish show stress, increase aeration and pause dosing until the pond settles.

How to calculate pond volume:

Gallons = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Average Depth (ft) × 7.48

For an irregular pond, average several length and width measurements, or split the pond into rectangles and add them. Measure depth in several spots, including the middle, then average.

Example: 20 ft × 12 ft × 2.5 ft × 7.48 = 4,488 gallons

Standard weekly dose for that pond: 4,488 ÷ 265 × 10 ml ≈ 170 ml per week

A 1000 ml bottle at that rate lasts about 6 weeks at the standard dose.

What this is not:

• Not a copper or peroxide algaecide
  
• Not a sludge-digesting bomb (that is a different Evolution Aqua product)

• Not intended to instantly clear pea-soup green water

FAQ:

Does this replace a barley straw bale?

It is meant to give a similar style of support in gel form, without leaving straw in the pond.

Can I use it with a UV sterilizer?

Yes. Turn the UV off when you dose and leave it off for 24 hours so the live bacteria are not immediately exposed to UV.

Can I use it with Algae No-Mo or other treatments?

Do not stack treatments on the same day unless the labels allow it. If you use a chemical algae treatment, wait until that course is finished and the pond is well aerated before adding live bacteria products. 

Why does it smell?

The culture is live. A strong smell means the bottle is active, not expired.

What size should I buy?

Use the coverage table. 500 ml is the better start for smaller water gardens. 1000 ml is the better value for ponds in the several-thousand-gallon range.
